From palm-leaf and stylus to the modern ball-point — the story of the association that represents Tamil Nadu's pen industry.
Our Story
Since 1983, a steady rise
Even during the early stages before the dawn of civilisation, people of our blessed land communicated their thoughts through messages on palm-leaves, which served the purpose of paper, while a sharp needle-like instrument known as the 'stylus' played the role of the pen. With the rapid growth of technology we have entered a new era, in which myriad varieties of ball-point pens offering sophistication and greater writing comfort are manufactured and distributed — opening a new vista for the elimination of illiteracy across the world.
Truly, the world has recognised the unique position the pen industry occupies. Many countries have vied with one another in an all-out effort to preserve and protect the image of the industry.
The Tamilnadu Pen Manufacturers and Dealers Association, the sole representative body for those dealing in pens, stationery and gift items in the whole state of Tamil Nadu, came into existence in 1983. Its career graph has been on a steady rise ever since. Today it functions as an active forum for the fulfilment of the aspirations of all its members, and has many a time acted decisively to highlight the grievances of the industry before the authorities for effective redressal.
The association conducts regular trade fairs, and in 2014 brought out a membership directory-cum-souvenir carrying the photos of all members together with their complete business details. With 450+ members on the rolls — including leading manufacturers from other major cities of the country — our doors remain open to everyone connected with the stationery stream, so the whole industry can reach its customers together.

Leadership messages

President
I am elated that the Tamilnadu Pen Manufacturers and Dealers Association has made big strides in its long career and, with the latest addition of new members from other cities, our task assumes a new dimension to carry on our mission. The opening up of our website adds to our determination to achieve more and reach our marked destination.
I am all the more happy that this most-needed venture will be able to connect with everyone in the industry and the general public throughout the nation — which in essence means that we stand to achieve more, and come to the limelight to do more for our members and patrons.

Secretary
The idea of establishing a website for the writing materials industry has been not only the need of the hour, but also the association moving with the times. We already have a well-established membership network over the whole country. Our activities, presently confined within the four walls of our office, will spread throughout the length and breadth of the country and catch the attention of all. When this happens, our scope of progress and our mobilising of the industry's opinion will mark a new trend in our work for the betterment of the industry.
I consider this step of starting a website for our association an important milestone in our history — and with veterans all over the industry contributing their suggestions, we will be able to move steadily and achieve more.
